February 1st,2004 I flew out of Tulsa, Oklahoma and touched down in Chicago, London and Alexandria, Egypt before landing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The flight was good all the way. On the flight to London I sat next to a 98 year old women from Nigeria and an older lady from India on my left across the isle. I thought the Indian lady was going to die. She needed oxygen and her eyes were rolled back in her head. Needless to say, I spent much time praying for her and told the devil that she wasn’t going to
die on my flight. By the time we arrived in London, she was acting like nothing had every happened. Praise the Lord
February 6th, I am finding the heart of the average Ethiopian to be very warm and gentle. There are three million people in the capital and the people treat one another as if they know each other.
You can tell that family and relationships are very important here. The security in Ethiopia is much different than what I am accustomed to. Last night when we were travelling we came through a checkpoint where the people were armed with machine guns.
The people I was with told me to cover my head ( white & bald ) and pretend I was sleeping. I knew at this point it was no time to ask questions and did as I was asked. Praise the Lord for his favour and protection, we went through without any problems.
February 8th,2004 The first several days here in Ethiopia have been spent in meeting after meeting with local pastors and church leaders planning the crusade which is to be
held in the southern part of Ethiopia near the border of Kenya. My first Ethiopian lunch I found the food to be spicy and hot, but it tastes very good. Everyone eats with their fingers and there are no utensils of any kind.
This is going to take a little getting used too. The driving here is like the "NASCAR", there seems to be no laws and usually the biggest vehicle has the right of way.
February 12th, 2004 This was the day of travel, we traveled 400 kilometres to the southern part of Ethiopia by van. We stopped to have lunch on the side of the road and a young
boy with two cows came to eat with us and we were able to lead him to Jesus, It brought tears to my eyes when we left him as we may be the only preachers that he ever meets. We drove through the night across some pretty dusty roads and had to use masks. While we were still many miles
out from the city where the crusade was being held, we came across people that were walking to get there. As we drove into the crusade site you could hear thousands of people worshiping God at the crusade location. The local Pastors had already started meetings the day before. We were told
people had walked up to six days to get to the crusade.
February 19th, 2004
The days of the crusade have been very exciting. To be in the presence of the Lord with thousands of people in one accord, lifting their hearts to God in worship is awesome. During the days of the crusade God performed many mighty miracles.
There we so many healings it was impossible to get everyone on the stage to testify becasue of time constraints. The one miracle performed by the Holy Spirit that stands out was the healing of a young girl who had been blind from birth. She came through the throng of people and fell into the arms
of the interpreter with tears of joy rolling down her face. You could tell she had been blind because her eyes were still a milky white color. She was so thankful to the Lord she danced with joy for several minutes on the stage. We had a person who new the girl before her healing come up and testify
of her blindness. Two other people who were blind received their sight. People with tumours and goitres were healed and the tumours and goitres disappeared. A young boy who had not been able to hear or speak for the last four
months had his speech and hearing restored. Praise the Lord Heb. 13:8 says- Jesus the same yesterday, today and forever.( Miracles are for today ).
The number of people attending the crusade grew as the days went on. The final estimates were approximately 70,000 people over the 4 days. God's hand continued to move mightily amoung the people every day. It was estimated that 30,000 people made decisions to accept and follows Jesus.
Upon our leaving, the local people gave the crusade team a gift of home made butter, coffee beans straight of the tree and fresh honey. It was a very moving to receive these heart felt gifts from the people and then drive away leaving them in the hand of God and to be discipled by the local pastors.
February 25th, 2004 The days following the crusade we met with local ministers again to discuss future crusades and pray that the people touched by the love of Jesus in this crusade would grow in knowledge and spread the love of Jesus beyond the borders of this country.
During my flight home the Lord continued to bring people across my path who were eager to hear the gospel. I was able to share the good news with a Muslim from Turkey, a Jewish lady from Russia and a lady during my wait for a flight in London. Praise the Lord The crusade was a success and the Kingdom of God expanded on the earth.
